About the role

The Rise Collective is a national initiative of the Council of Churches of Christ in Australia (CCCA) supporting emerging leaders in their first ten years of ministry. It exists to strengthen vocational and spiritual formation, provide meaningful resourcing, contribute to the national leadership pathway, and grow movement-wide connection among the next generation of leaders.

This is an establishment role. The Rise Collective already exists as a vision and a team of volunteer state representatives, alongside the Rise Summit, a conference held every two years to connect, equip, and inspire emerging leaders. This project is about drawing it together into a functioning national collective with lasting rhythms and structures. We are looking for someone who can build that from the ground up.

Working closely with the national Rise Collective Committee, you will turn shared vision into action, coordinate national initiatives, and keep momentum and follow-through across states. This is a role for someone who can both carry vision and build relationships, and also organise, execute, and drive initiatives through to completion. Success will look like a functioning national collective, consistent formation rhythms across states, and stronger connection between emerging leaders, with specific priorities developed together with the Rise Collective Committee and the CCCA early in the project.

About the Council of Churches of Christ in Australia

The Council of Churches of Christ in Australia (CCCA) is the national body connecting Churches of Christ state movements across the country. The Rise Collective is a national initiative of CCCA, delivered in collaboration with the state movements. The successful contractor will engage with CCCA nationally while being hosted within a state office for day-to-day working environment and team connection.

Key responsibilities

• Champion the vision and shape national strategy across the three pillars: vocational and spiritual formation, resourcing, and movement building
• Coordinate formation experiences, including quarterly online gatherings and a two-year formation journey
• Develop training cohorts and encourage mentoring connections across states
• Coordinate and curate a national resource bank and the Collective’s online platform, working with state communications teams rather than producing all content directly
• Strengthen connection between emerging leaders nationally, and partner with the Rise Summit coordinator to keep the Summit and the broader Collective strategic priorities aligned
• Facilitate Rise Collective Committee gatherings and support national conversations across states
• Work with the RISE Committee to manage budget and reporting, and contribute to fundraising and long-term sustainability

Desirable skills and experience

• Demonstrated ministry experience within Churches of Christ or a similar movement
• Actively engaged in a Churches of Christ church, or open to connecting with one
• Proven leadership and organisational capacity, with the ability to hold both strategic and operational outcomes
• Has completed, or is currently undertaking, theological training (highly desirable)
• Understanding and genuine commitment to spiritual formation
• Established national networks, or the relational capability to build them
• Strong communication skills, both written and relational
• A strategic thinker who can deliver practical outcomes

Personal attributes

• A collaborative approach that works well across diverse state contexts
• Self-motivated and comfortable working in a distributed, national environment

Engagement details

The role is a two-year project of up to three days per week, offered in the first instance with the possibility of ongoing engagement depending on future funding and how the role develops.

The engagement arrangement will be confirmed with the successful applicant. Depending on circumstances, this may be as an independent contractor (requiring an ABN, with the applicant managing their own tax and insurances) or through another arrangement connected to a state office. Remuneration will include superannuation. Full details of the engagement and scope will be provided to shortlisted applicants.

Remuneration: Benchmarked against the Churches of Christ ministers’ remuneration for the state where the successful applicant is located, according to qualifications and experience.

Location: Open Australia-wide, hosted by the Churches of Christ state office in the successful applicant’s home state, with hybrid working and some interstate travel.
