General Description 

St. Michael’s is an active and engaged Evangelical Anglican community in inner city Melbourne. It has a small staff with responsibilities including ministries to children and youth, adults in small groups, and two Sunday congregations. This staff position is for 12 –16 hours per week and does not necessitate church membership nor attendance though it is welcome. The Administrator will work primarily for the Vicar, but also assist from time to time in administration tasks to assist staff and other church leaders. The work will include at least one day in the Church office with other staff but moving some responsibilities to the cloud and will include general clerical and administrative duties as directed.

 

Gifts and abilities:

The Administrater shall have:

  • Great people skills that represent a welcoming and courteous attitude to those entering the office, church environment and on the phone.
  • Excellent administrative skills to collect and organise information, rosters, communicate with other staff, parishioners and visitors.
  • Good understanding of Microsoft 365 Office Suite, PowerpointDropbox, Google Drive and
  • Experience and knowledge of local churches is desirable
  • Competence in updating and editing WordPress Web pages, or willingness to learn
  • Experience with governance, risk and compliance procedures, especially Child

In keeping with biblical teaching for church workers the staff member should be in regular fellowship with other Christians, of good reputation, and their lifestyle and behaviour to be examplary. All staff in Anglican Churches must comply with its official code of good practice.

 

Specific tasks and responsibilities:

  • Implement and support the change to migrate key office functions to iCloud
  • Act as point of contact for Parish Council, Church Wardens and Anglican Diocese
  • Collect information for and publish the weekly news bulletin for Sunday services
  • Manage property use via email, phone and face-to-face
  • Sort and distribute incoming mail
  • Maintain and update the church calendar
  • Circulate information via MailChimp regarding upcoming events and services
  • Prepare service running sheets and PowerPoint slideshows for services
  • Publish, update and distribute rosters for ministries as directed
  • Publish, copy, and distribute occasional letters, fliers, booklets, etc. as directed
  • Update and maintain the parish computer database and produce reports as required
  • Maintain files of information (electronic and hard copies) for parish use
  • Manage St Michael’s website regularly (WordPress)
  • Reporting to CCLI re copyright and photocopies for music (monthly & annually)
  • Manage WWC checks, police checks etc. for parishioners involved in ministry
  • Create and use graphics for sermon series, special events, Christmas and Easter

 

Terms and conditions:

  • 12-16 hours per week or extra when required as agreed to with the vicar
  • Casual hourly rate of salary based on government award (Fairwork)
  • Under direct supervision of the Vicar or another parish office-bearer
  • Review of position after 3 months, and before December of each calendar year
  • Requires assent to “Faithfulness in Service” code of conduct of the Anglican Diocese of Melbourne for staff and leaders – document available
