About the organisation.

Barnabas Fund Australia (BFA) (trading as Barnabas Aid Australia) is a not-for-profit company limited by guarantee, a Registered Charity with the ACNC and its Board is elected by the members of the company.

BFA is part of a global family of ministries providing hope and support for suffering and persecuted Christians wherever we can and equipping believers to pray on their behalf. Our values are as follows:

About the current vacancy

BFA currently has a Board of 6 members but one of them is retiring at our November AGM. We are therefore looking to increase our Board by at least 2 members. The Board guides the organisations strategy, growth, and direction and ensures compliance with Board duties and obligations. The Board is responsible for operating in a manner that is consistent with its Statement of Faith.

To be successful in this Board role, a Director will:

  • Have a strong interest and/or experience in the persecuted church worldwide, including experience in the NFP sector;
  • Be highly accomplished in and have a proven track record in at least one of the following areas: Project management, financial management and business management;
  • Contribute to board strategy development and decision-making and fulfil governance responsibilities including legal, ethical, fiduciary, risk, and financial duties;
  • Have experience in and understanding of Board Governance responsibilities; and
  • Contribute to 3 to 4 board/strategy meetings a year which will be conducted via zoom technology or in person meetings at our head office in Adelaide.

To make a valuable contribution a Director will:

  • Have a demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative way with a highly engaged and collegiate board;
  • Demonstrate a strong Christian faith;
  • Be able to interact with other board members and management in constructive and tactful ways;
  • Bring an ability to contribute to effective board-level decision-making;
  • Have a high level of commitment, personal maturity, self-awareness, and self-management;
  • Have a high level of integrity in fulfilling the director’s duties and responsibilities, acting ethically and always in the interests of BFA; and
  • Be motivated by the challenge and opportunity of contributing to the established purposes of BFA.

Educational requirements:

It will be essential that you have tertiary qualifications in a relevant field in ministry or business with significant industry experience in leadership.

Other key attributes:

Active involvement in a local Church community and has a solid understanding of the NFP sector and knowledge of the persecuted Church globally. Candidates maybe experienced non-executive Directors or leaders seeking their first board role, where leadership capability, judgement and missional alignment are evident.
