About the role 

As the Field Development Manager you will be working collaboratively with churches, schools and volunteers, you will be responsible for leading the local delivery of SU ministry through training, coaching and leading both staff and volunteers in ministry opportunities within your district. You will also be responsible for growing SU ministry in the geographical area by establishing new camps and programs, and coaching event directors and volunteers. In addition, as the Emerge Coordinator you will be involved in developing programs and opportunities for young people (aged 12 – 19 years) to grow their skills in leadership and discipleship to help them become future leaders on SU camps and other mission programs. You will be responsible for liaising with schools associated with the Emerge Schools program, delivering workshops and training co-facilitators.

While the role has a special field focus on southern Tasmania the Emerge Program requires state-wide commitment. Please note this role requires frequent travel, is preferably based in the SU office in South Hobart though working from home arrangement could be negotiated. You will need to be based in the area due to the leadership and networking responsibilities of the role. This is a hybrid role comprised of the Field Development Manager, Tasmania South role (3 days) and the Emerge Coordinator role (2 days) This is a full-time role, fixed term for 12 months.

Our ideal candidate will have: 

  • A broad understanding of Christian youth and children’s ministry, including camps, weekend and afternoon programs and holiday missions
  • The ability and the desire to create new children’s and youth ministry expressions
  • A minimum 3 years’ experience leading professional teams as well as recruiting and working with volunteer teams preferably within a not-for profit environment
  • A good understanding of leadership principles, the ability to connect with schools and coordinate the implementation of the Emerge program in schools across Tasmania
  • Demonstrated ability to network, build partnerships and strategic alliances with a broad range of people, churches and other Christian organisations
  • Tertiary qualifications in youth work, leadership, business or related field
  • Experience and involvement in community fundraising and involvement within the Education sector is desirable
  • Driver’s license essential
