Job title:      Eco Church Coordinator
Status:         Staff part-time
Location:     Working from Home
Part-time:    0.2 FTE
Term:           1-year contract (with possible extension)
Salary:         Part time, $16,000 p.a. for 7.5 hours per week plus on-costs.
This equates to 0.2 FTE pro rata on a base full-time salary of $80,000 p.a. plus on-costs. The goal is to grow income to increase hours

About the role

We are looking for someone who is passionate to see the Australian Church accepting God’s invitation to care for creation. The successful candidate will have the heart, vision, and the experience to lead the development and implementation of an A Rocha Eco Church program for Australia, supported by the Project Lead, Executive Officer, and volunteers.

A Rocha Eco Church began in the UK and is the name given to a number of A Rocha church engagement programs around the world – each being distinct, responding to national environmental, social and cultural contexts. It is an inherent requirement of the role that the employee can affirm and actively support our Christian beliefs and mission, and speak about their faith and the difference this makes to their life.

 

Key responsibilities 

  1. Under the Project Lead progress the design and implementation of an A Rocha Eco Church program for Australia with the team, including:

    • review feedback from the current Eco Church Action Planner pilot and refine
    • devising a means to assess the impact of the program and monitor take-up of the program
    • overseeing the creation of an A Rocha Eco Church website and moderate website content
    • liaise with, onboard, and support churches as they consider and join the Eco Church program
    • explore with the team potential partner organisations, denominations, churches, and NGOs to increase the support of and take-up of the program
    • setting up and scheduling community of practices / learning communities for churches to share experience.

  1. Liaise with and learn from other A Rocha Eco Church programs around the world
  2. Source and adapt existing faith resources for Australian churches to make available on the website (theological, environmental and practical)
  3. Join the A Rocha International Church and Theology quarterly meetings.

 

Support 

The Eco Church Coordinator will work closely with the Eco Church Project Lead with whom you will have regular contact; with further support from, and reporting to, the Executive Officer.

 

Selection Criteria

We will look for the following in the successful candidate:

 Personal characteristics

  1. you will have a love for Jesus, demonstrated through active involvement in a local church, a deep personal commitment to creation care, and a desire to see churches across Australia embracing creation care.

Understanding and skills 

  1. a sound understanding of eco-theology, church management, the objectives of A Rocha Eco Church programs and able to articulate your own faith and the difference this makes in your life and work
  2. skilled in oral and written communication across a range of media, including being able to work with a website builder, and presenting written reports to the A Rocha Australia board.
  3. skilled in project development and coordination including goal setting, outcome identification, and progress reporting
  4. proficient as a community organiser and in building community
  5. ability to work with different denominations.

Leadership experience 

  1. 2-3 years of demonstrated experience in managing or implementing projects including elements of organisational administration, management, financial management and fundraising (preferably in the not-for-profit sector)
  2. demonstrated experience engaging with churches, NGOs, partner organisations or other stakeholders, including in cross-cultural settings.
