Chaplain

About Us:

Anglicare Sydney is a leading and highly regarded community NFP organisation in Australia.

Our vision is to see Jesus Christ honoured, lives enriched and communities strengthened. To achieve this, we are looking to attract the most capable and mission aligned people to join us.

For over 160 years Anglicare has been serving people in need- providing care to older people and services to the vulnerable. We began because of people who saw a need in the community and who were compelled to make a difference. People motivated by Christian love and a passion to serve. If this describes you, we would love to invite you to join us!

Chaplain – A Ministry of Presence, Comfort, and Hope

About the Role:

At Anglicare, we believe every older person deserves to be seen, heard, and spiritually supported. As a permanent full time Chaplain, you’ll be a steady and compassionate presence in the lives of residents—offering comfort, connection, and Christ-centred care in their later years.

You’ll be part of a dedicated Pastoral Care Team, working alongside Pastoral Carers to nurture a warm, inclusive, and spiritually rich environment. This is a ministry of deep listening, gentle encouragement, and unwavering hope.

Location & Travel:

This role is based at Anglicare’s Residential Care Home in South Hurstville for two days per week.
The remaining three days will involve travel to other Anglicare Residential Care Homes across:

  • Southwest Sydney (including Minto)
  • Eastern Suburbs
  • South Coast

Travel is directed by the Team Leader, and a travel allowance is payable between the base home and other sites.

Your Ministry Will Include:

  • Leading meaningful Church services, preaching, teaching, and one-on-one visitations.
  • Supporting residents in their spiritual journey—whether they are exploring faith or walking closely with Christ.
  • Offering peace and presence to those living with dementia or nearing end-of-life, and to their families.
  • Being a source of strength and care for staff and loved ones experiencing grief or loss.
  • Collaborating with the broader care team to ensure holistic, person-centred support.

What You Bring

  • A vibrant and active Christian faith, with a heart for older people.
  • Theological training and recognition by the Sydney Anglican Diocese.
  • A warm, empathetic nature and the ability to build trust with grace and humility.
  • Experience in pastoral care, ideally within aged care or ministry settings.
  • A commitment to confidentiality, professionalism, and spiritual integrity.
  • Membership and active participation in a local Evangelical Church.
  • A current driver’s licence and access to a vehicle with full comprehensive insurance.
  • Valid NDIS Workers Screening Check

Why This Role Matters:

This is more than a job, you’ll be walking alongside people in one of the most vulnerable and meaningful seasons of life. Your presence will bring light, your words will bring peace, and your faith will bring hope.

Your word is a lamp for my feet,
a light on my path. Psalm 119:105
