Maranatha Health: Seeking board members

 

Maranatha Health is a not-for-profit organisation based in Australia and Uganda that aims to improve health outcomes, empower the poor, and make positive lasting change with the people of rural Uganda.

Maranatha Health began with a dream to improve health care in an under-resourced part of East Africa. Australian founders Michael and Kim Findlay believe that every community, no matter where they are in the world, should have access to high quality, compassionate health care. For nearly 15 years, Maranatha Health has been working towards achieving this in rural Uganda.

Our focus is on the holistic health and wellbeing of the communities we work with. We run a Children’s hospital, seeing on average 12,000 patients per year, to offer high quality care for children who couldn’t afford this health care otherwise, and work with remote communities in our region to elect, train and empower village health advisors who become change agents in their local area.

Maranatha Health is a registered charity in Australia governed by a Board of Directors and has an ATO-approved Public Ancillary Fund to receive tax-deductible donations. The current Board of Directors of Maranatha Health Australia has 5 members, with a variety of backgrounds, skills and abilities. To enhance and strengthen the Board and fill gaps in its composition, we are looking to appoint up to 3 individuals who ideally have one of the following skills:

  • Experienced in not for profits sector / charity governance and operations

  • Have experience in fundraising, and are able to further the reach and fundraising  opportunities of Maranatha Health

  • Have skills in marketing and social media

 

Expectations of board members include:

  • Support Maranatha Health mission, core values and operating principles

  • Follow sound governance practices for not for profits

  • Engage with financial management and allocation of funds

  • Make a commitment to being on Board for at least a 2 year term

  • Regularly attend Board meetings, generally held every 2 months starting at 8pm AEST (by Teams or Zoom) and occasional fundraising event. Between Board meetings there may be emails or phone conversations to attend to pressing matters.

  • Respect unique roles and responsibilities of board, teams, volunteers. Take on roles (office bearers) or Team leadership as needed

 

The process for electing board members includes:

  • Registering through an Expression of Interest form

  • A meeting with 2 board members to discuss interest

  • Reading and agreeance of the board manual

  • The final Board election process
