Introduction

mainly music Australia is a dynamic for purpose organisation that partners with 400 churches and other service providers to deliver weekly sessions combining musical activity, hospitality, and community connection for over 6,000 families throughout Australia. Through its proven model of over 35 years, children develop literacy and numeracy skills while strengthening bonds with their parent/carer. Families experience meaningful community inclusion and gentle faith invitation from the team from local host churches. Part of the mainly music International network which launched in New Zealand in 1990, mainly music now operates over 800 sessions across ten countries. mainly music Australia operates as a public company limited by guarantee with strong leadership structures and an expanding vision for new opportunities to serve families with babies through to preschoolers throughout the country.

 

Overview

The Management and Board have developed:

  • A strategic plan.

  • A rolling budget forecast.

The Australian Board review and provide input within:

  • Strategic planning.

  • Strategic policies and procedures.

  • The organisation’s risk analysis as it pertains to Australia.

  • Financial and influencer introductions.

  • Financial performance (including against budget).

  • Monitoring systems and regulatory compliance.

The International Trust Board review and provide input within:

  • The vision, mission and values.

  • The strategic plan for the group.

  • Monitoring each country entity.

  • The appointment of the CEO.

The Australian Board is required to:

  • Accept responsibility as the legal authority for the organisation ensuring compliance with the constitution. Take ultimate responsibility for the Australian organisation, ensuring all legal, compliance, and regulatory requirements are met.

  • Accept responsibility for and meet the requirements of the International Trust. The Australian Board has a Covenant of Co-operation with mainly music International Trust, the umbrella organisation for the worldwide development, who act as both protectors and holders of the brand.

  • Where required, country boards contribute to key staff placements.

 

Organisational structure

mainly music Australia sits under the umbrella of mainly music International Trust, alongside the New Zealand and UK entities. Each of the country entities are linked by a Covenant of Co-operation and have relationship with the international entity.

Board meeting rhythm

Board meetings are held six times a year over Zoom. The Chair also attends six International Trust meetings in the same month.

If you are interested in being considered for the position of Chair for the mainly music Australia Board, please request further details from our Governance Administrator – operations@mainlyministries.org – providing brief details of your Board experience and the community of faith you participate in.

 

We are seeking a Board Chair with previous experience, who is culturally competent, and may have skills/experience in the appropriate markets (Churches, Pre-school Education) and transferrable business skills to a charity setting. Applicants should demonstrate experience in a for-profit organisation or on a previous board. Experience within an earned revenue model would be viewed favourably.

 

The successful candidate will demonstrate a cultural fit of faith-aligned values, and able to work within the organisation’s Christian Statement of Faith.
