Description

Update: Due to circumstances beyond CMA's control, we have just been advised that Tony McLellan is unable to travel to Melbourne for this breakfast. Instead, the co-author of his book, Nick Cater (Executive Director of the Menzies Resoarch Centre) will be standing in for Tony and bringing the breakfast presentation.

Tony McLellan has lived and worked in eight countries and has had an extraordinary range of business and cultural experiences.

He began his career when his father became ill and he had to leave school to run the large family sheep station with its team of men in the Far West of New South Wales. Tony will tell you that the breakthrough came when he me a new local schoolteacher whom he subsequently married when they were both aged 20. Now, 61 years later, it was Rae who encouraged him to move back to the city to get educated, where he graduated summa cum laude.

This set him on a path of property development—the epitome of which was being appointed managing director of Pyramids Oasis, responsible for developing a new city for 45,000 people in Egypt.

He was also a director of a chain of 69 hotels and president of the famous Beachcomber Resort in Tahiti.

His later experiences included serving as the founding president of Barrick Gold in Canada, that became the world’s biggest gold company. He was also president of large oil and gas companies in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Houston, Texas. Later, he was appointed president of L J Hooker in the USA with several thousand employees. He then formed a software company that he took public.

Tony’s concentration turned to Christian not-for-profits, both in the USA and later when he returned to Australia, where he also assumed the chairmanship of a number of listed mining companies.

Tony’s leadership experiences are extensive and broad, to say the least, and he has much to share from leading others in business, in large Christian not-for-profits, and in sport for over 65 years.

Please join as as we get back together, face-to-face, for some great networking and inspirational input at a new venue, the RACV Club Melbourne!
