The Position

An Accounts Officer Position exists within the Business Office.

This will be a Permanent - Full-time position.

About Christian Heritage College

Christian Heritage College (CHC) was established in 1986 by the Christian Outreach Centre, now known as the International Network of Churches (INC), out of its vision for Christian higher education in Australia. From small beginnings, CHC has gained recognition as a provider of some standing in the Australian higher education sector.

About the Position

The Accounts Officer is the backbone of CHC's Finance Department and is responsible for all the daily accounting functions.

The key objectives of the Accounts Officer are to:

  • Handle daily accounting functions.
  • Ensure all tasks are completed and managed in accordance with CHC's policies and procedures, industry best practice and relevant Government Standards.
  • Support the Finance Manager with the successful and efficient financial operations.


Duties include but are not limited to, the following:


  • End to end processing of fortnightly payroll for permanent and casual employees as well as sessional academic staff.
  • Prepare and manage contracts for sessional lecturers and other ad-hoc academic staff from information provided by each School.
  • Maintain single-touch payroll reporting to the ATO.

Cash Management

  • Perform daily reconciliations for bank and credit card accounts.

Student Invoicing

  • Generate Tuition Fee invoices to students at the beginning of each Semester.
  • Reconcile Tuition Fees with the Student Management System each Semester following Census.
  • Reconcile HELP payments, CANs and student payments with Registry each Semester.

Accounts Receivable

  • Liaise with students regarding payment of student fees and respond to queries as required.
  • Managing and chasing up of debtors, liaising with external collections agencies if necessary.

Accounts Payable

  • Entering of supplier invoices as received.
  • Liaising with suppliers regarding invoices and payments.
  • Process payments to suppliers on a weekly and ad-hoc basis.

Management & Financial Reporting

  • Assistance with monthly processes in consultation with the Finance Manager as required.

Other Duties
  • Liaise with finance staff from related entities and respond to queries as required;
  • Prepare minutes of monthly Fina Prepare minutes of periodic Finance, Risk Management & Audit (FRMA) Committee meetings.
  • Assist the Finance Manager with the annual financial statements and external audit.
  • Assist the Finance Manager with the annual budget process as required;

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Relevant qualifications in Accounting/Bookkeeping; or equitable industry experience.
  • Previous experience in payroll.
  • Previous experience working in a small/medium sized business of between 25-100 staff.
  • Previous experience using Xero accounting, and CloudPayroll software desirable but not essential.
