Mill Valley Ranch (MVR), Tynong North, is a Baptist Camping Victoria (BCV) Christian camp, running a 72-hectare horse ranch. Our clients are schools, churches, community groups and youth. BCV is looking for a self-motivated, innovative, and experienced horse person to run our full horse program with skills in:

  • Leading staff and volunteers by running horse programs for children and youth within Horse Safety Australia (HSA) standards,
  • Be a skilled horse rider and have HSA standards level 3 qualifications or other horse equivalent qualifications,
  • Demonstrate an experienced understanding of horse welfare and how a horse string works,
  • Demonstrated teamwork, including working across all MVR teams, in particular with the Farm and Property coordinator,
  • Manage a budget and closely monitor horse program expenditure,
  • Demonstrated record keeping and report writing skills, including the ability to use Microsoft excel and word to maintain and write horse program records and reports,
  • Physically fit and well to fulfil the position.

Expectations of the position:

MVR is a strong Christian camp so understanding Baptist Camping Victoria faith, values and witness is essential in the job. You will need to be part of the bigger team at MVR as we run holiday camps during every school holiday period. Long and flexible hours are required. The successful candidate will be required to hold a current Victorian Working With Children check and will undertake a Police check prior to commencement of employment.

  1. What is your understanding of the Christian Faith and do you have a faith affiliation with a church?
  2. What are your horse qualifications and what experience do you have in delivering horse programs to children and youth?
  3. What training of horses have you done?
  4. Our horse program covers 4 areas; demonstrations, arena work at 3 horse levels, trail riding and hiring of facilities. What is your experience in these areas?
  5. Our focus is on western riding. What is your understanding and experience of that?
  6. MVR is Horse Safety Australian (HSA) accredited, what is your understanding of that program?
  7. How have you developed a team and worked with other teams in a workplace?
  8. What experience do you have in the care and welfare of horses and how would you apply this to MVR where there is a requirement to look after 38 horses?
  9. What understanding do you have of running a horse ranch, including looking after pastures, fencing and the feed requirements for horses etc?
  10. What experience do you have in record keeping and report writing?
  11. What experience do you have with managing expenditure within budget?
  12. What is your level of physical fitness to manage, ride and care for horses?
  13. Do you hold a current Victorian Working with Children check (WWCC)?
