ABOUT THE ROLE

We are calling for enthusiastic and experienced individuals to assist Steps Outreach Service to achieve better social and economic outcomes for young people and families who are experiencing, or have experienced, homelessness.

In this position, you will be supporting our team in meaningful ways. This includes, but not limited, to:

  • Take part in outreach in Melbourne CBD at night time and make contacts with the groups of young people requiring support.
  • Provide outreach support to clients using a strengths-based, client centred approach.
  • Advocate and support young people to access appropriate services and resources.
  • Liaise with agencies and referral services.
  • Complete reporting requirement including case notes, incident reports and evaluation documents as required.
  • Assist with promotional and fundraising events.

The incumbent will need to be able to work flexible hours with some evening work required to fit in with the service delivery requirements.

This position is located at Dandenong Office.

This is a part time 0.5 FTE (19 hours a week), 12 months fixed term role.

This position is classified in accordance with the Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award 2010 MA000100, with the salary range Level 3 $64 K to $68 K plus superannuation and the level to be commensurate with skills and experience.

ABOUT YOU

We are seeking a dedicated Youth Worker who can work collaboratively within a team in a non-judgmental manner, is empathetic and solution-focused, can manage change well, and who is professional in their approach to client service delivery. Experience in Youth Work, homelessness or related fields will be highly regarded.

SELECTION CRITERIA

The successful applicant for this position will be able to demonstrate:

Essential:

  • Demonstrated commitment and personal desire to adhere to Concern Australia's Mission, Vision, Values and Goals and to work in a team environment.
  • Tertiary qualification in either psychology, social work, youth work, social sciences or related field.
  • Relevant experience in a similar role.
  • Knowledge on how to work with young people experiencing social disadvantage, including homelessness.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including an ability to write case notes, reports and associated documentation.
  • Sound interpersonal skills together with excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to liaise with people at all levels and backgrounds, internal and external to the organization.
  • Current Victorian Driver's Licence.
  • Satisfactory National Police Check and International Police Check (if applicable).
  • Valid Working with Children Check or relevant Victorian Teaching Registration.

Desirable:

  • First Aid Certificate.
  • Knowledge of the Not-for-Profit sector.

Appointments are subject to eligibility and the legal right to work in Australia.

Appointments are subject to satisfactory Working with Children Check, National Police Check, International Police Check (If resided overseas for a period of 12 months or longer for the past 10 years) and other employment screening or credential checks as determined by the position description.

This role is considered an 'authorised worker'. Successful applicants will be required to provide evidence of an immunisation assessment and COVID-19 Vaccination (or valid exemption) prior to commencement.
