Baptist Churches Western Australia desires to be an empowering movement helping Pastors, Ministries, Churches and their community say Yes to Jesus. In 1896 four Western Australian Baptist Churches united together to form the Baptist Union of Western Australia Inc. Today, collectively we are made up of over 125 churches, 17 Baptist Colleges/Schools, training through Morling College/Vose Training, 3 Camping Centres, Events, Global Mission and Aid agencies, Financial Services, Insurance Services and aged and community care, who have voluntarily united together in inter-dependence for mutual support and encouragement.

The Role

Baptist Churches Western Australia is seeking a motivated person to take on the role of Church Health Standards Officer. In this role you will be a vital part of the Church Health and Pastoral Support team, overseeing and managing the Safe Church Standards for BCWA and local churches. This role will include both response and prevention strategies, such as the overall Safe Church program, complaints handling and managing BCWA participation in the National Redress Scheme.

From time to time, the role will also involve working with people, including churches, who have experienced trauma and whom may need assistance in a complaints process. Therefore experience in working with vulnerable people is a requirement for this position.

The successful applicant will be able to work closely with the Professional Standards Officer and Accreditation Team, and oversee the Safe Church Educator and Administrator.

The role is permanent part time appointment (0.6). A Safe Church Educator position of (0.4) is also available and consideration will be given to combining the roles into a single full-time appointment.

The Essential Criteria

The following criteria are required to be addressed within your cover letter which needs to be accompanied by your resume and referee details.

  • A commitment to work within a Christian environment and promote the vision, mission and values of Baptist Churches Western Australia.
  • Relevant degree or post graduate qualification in either Social Work, Teaching, Legal, Counselling, or Psychology together with 1-2 years' experience; or lesser formal qualifications with substantial experience in the relevant field.
  • Demonstrated ability to work within legislative and governance frameworks including constitutions, policies and procedures.
  • High level people and management skills, with the ability to communicate effectively and appropriately support people who have experienced trauma.
  • Strong conflict resolution skills, with the ability to remain calm under pressure.
  • Demonstrated organisational skills, with accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with pastors and church leaders.
  • Self-motivated to learn.
