Talent Manager Chaplaincy Services

Full Time or Part Time

Schools Ministry Group has been providing ongoing pastoral and practical support through chaplaincy, Christian education and wellbeing services to school communities in partnership with the combined Christian community and other organisations for over 25 years.

SMG is the employer of more than 300 Pastoral Care Workers in South Australia government schools and is an approved Chaplaincy Service provider of the South Australian Department for Education (DfE)  through the National School Chaplaincy Program (NSCP).

A position has become vacant for the role of Talent Manager, either full time or part time, in the Adelaide office.

The purpose of the Talent Manager is to manage the recruitment of Pastoral Care Workers to the point they are presented to Schools for selection into specific roles. Critical to this work will be the development and maintenance of an appointment ready talent pool of potential Pastoral Care Workers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the recruitment process for vacant positions, including expressions of interest, recruitment, and selection processes to recruit candidates into the talent pool.
  • Proactively identify and encourage suitable Pastoral Care Workers.
  • Develop a pipeline of prospective PCWs to continuously replenish the pool.
  • Develop and apply a standardised applicant assessment methodology, including interviews, work simulations, reference checks and candidate assessment summaries etc.
  • Ensure comprehensive records are maintained on each candidate
  • Prepare candidates who need coaching and encouragement to become ‘work-ready’.
  • Support in-service training events for Pastoral Care Workers.
  • Design and deliver information sessions for prospective Pastoral Care Workers.
  • Promote the wider ministry of SMG at every opportunity

Personal Faith

Applicants must have:

  • A personal commitment to Christian faith and values. Applicants must be able to give adherence to the beliefs held in common by supporting churches, as stated in the Nicene Creed
  • An active and regular involvement in a Christian community


  • Tertiary qualification in Ministry, Business, Education or related field, or appropriate levels of experience
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a high level of accuracy, efficiency and confidentiality whilst managing competing priorities
  • Previous experience in a similar role would be an advantage
