There are less than twelve months left for organisations to join the National Redress Scheme, established by the Commonwealth Government to provide redress to survivors who have experienced institutional child sexual abuse. Many government and non-government organisations, including Christian organisations, have already joined the Scheme.

This webinar will explore:

  • the key features of the Scheme;
  • whether your organisation should join the Scheme; and
  • how to join the Scheme.

Webinar presenters, Jon Cheung and Sam Burnett (Prolegis Lawyers) are eminently qualified to address this topic:

Jon Cheung - Partner, Prolegis Lawyers
Jon leads the dispute resolution and inquiries practice at Prolegis Lawyers. His experience includes:

  • acting for a church institution before the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse
  • advising charities on participation in the National Redress Scheme including the establishment of a participation group for a church movement.
  • acting for charities in litigated and unlitigated claims
  • acting for charities in regulatory investigations;

Jon is currently the Board Chair of SIM Australia.

Sam Burnett - Associate, Prolegis Lawyers
Sam specialises in providing advice to organisations in relation to the care of vulnerable people including advising on child safety policies, codes of conduct and procedures.

Prior to working with Prolegis Lawyers, Sam was a senior legal officer at the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse on public hearings focused on religious institutions. Sam was a contributing writer of the religious organisations volume of the final report (and was the lead writer of the chapter on the Anglican Church), and was involved in the development of recommendations for religious institutions.

This webinar is free for CMA members (including board / staff of CMA Standards Council Accredited Partners), and by special arrangement is also free for members of Christian Venues Association.
