An exciting opportunity exists for a Minister for Compassion and Care (Part-Time) to join the Ministry Team at Northern Community Church of Christ in vibrant Preston, Victoria.

Northern Community Church of Christ (NCCC) commenced in 1999 through the amalgamation of four churches. Since that time, NCCC has at its heart a commitment to explore meaningful ways to engage with its surrounding community. NCCC currently hosts work experience opportunities for up to 400 job seekers each year and runs community lunches for approximately 280 people each week. The extension of our Pastoral Care role to increase our connection to the local community will continue to shape our missional heart.

Essential to this role will be a demonstrable experience in pastoral care or counselling, developing meaningful engagements with a diverse community within the church and extending out to the broader community. As an integral part of the Ministry Team, you will have the opportunity to work in a supportive, collaborative environment.

You will serve in a flexible ministry space up to 23 hrs over a negotiable week, remunerated according to the Churches of Christ Victoria and Tasmania recommendations.

Ministry Qualifications

  • Committed Christian who actively supports the Vision, Purpose, Values and Spiritual Disciplines of Northern Community Church of Christ;
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills, with the ability to relate delegate to and motivate a broad range of people;
  • Experience in compassion and care ministries or similar activities and the ability to work without supervision;
  • Well organised and able to meet deadlines;
  • To be of good reputation, honest and dependable, with spiritual maturity, dedication to Christ, a love of others, and a genuine desire to serve both;
  • Ability to take the initiative and work in a team setting which includes volunteers and staff;
  • Maintain confidentiality and the appropriate handling of sensitive information;
  • Highly developed verbal and written communication skills;
  • Have a high self-awareness and be empathetic to those whom you minister;
  • Not easily flustered;
  • Practical knowledge of personal and professional qualification limits and the ability to refer people on to other support services;
  • Preaching/public speaking ability;
  • Relevant qualifications in Pastoral Ministry or the equivalent (for example theological training, counselling training; experience in crisis and care activities; or the management of similar programmes);
  • The ability to be endorsed/accredited as a Minister with Churches of Christ Victoria and Tasmania;
  • Willing to become a member of Northern Community Church of Christ;
  • Ability and commitment to self-care and personal development;
  • A current Working With Children Check or successfully obtain a Working with Children Check, and a current Federal Police Check.
