National Church Engagement Specialist

    ●      Based in either Melbourne, Sydney or Brisbane

    ●      Permanent position, 3-5 days per week

    ●      Competitive remuneration package

About the role

A National Church Engagement Specialist is primarily responsible for helping to  increase the number of churches running Alpha and to increase the quality of the Alphas being run in churches, by engaging with church and Alpha leaders. You would be working as a member of the Church Engagement Team and would have a particular denominational focus within the Team guided by your own church/denominational background.

Your regular responsibilities may include, but not be limited to:

  • Contacting church leaders and Alpha leaders for information, coaching and encouragement;
  • Responding to requests for information and coaching;
  • Attending gatherings of church leaders, such as conferences, for the purpose of representing and promoting Alpha;
  • Speaking, as requested, on behalf of Alpha;
  • Praying with the Alpha staff team;
  • Strategising with the Church Engagement Team on ways to increase the number of people in Australia exploring faith through Alpha.

Increasingly, Zoom is being used to communicate with clients, stakeholders and other team members. However, some local and national travel will be required. Some international travel may also be a possibility.

About you

You are a strategic leader who networks comfortably with church leaders with a good understanding of the people, culture and structures of at least one church denomination. Preferably, you have experience as a church leader or member of a church executive.

You enjoy working collaboratively with your team members to set and achieve shared goals and, at the same time, you are a self-starter who can take initiative. As a team person with a teachable spirit you are able to communicate effectively with others in a variety of contexts.

You have the ability to relate to and respect people from a variety of cultures and faiths and from any Christian group, denomination or movement. You have a welcoming disposition that renders you capable of forming positive relationships that foster growth and development.

You are energetic with a positive outlook and the ability to problem solve.

You have an understanding of, and respect, for Alpha. Preferably, you have some personal connection with Alpha such as:

  • you have attended Alpha; or
  • you have led or volunteered at Alpha; or
  • you, or someone you know personally, came to faith in Christ through Alpha.

You have a sincere love for Christ, for his church and for those who are not yet members of his church. You appreciate the vital importance of evangelism in Australia, and personally desire to see people outside of Christ find salvation.

Who we are

Alpha began as an introduction to the Christian faith for new Christians attending Holy Trinity Brompton church in central London.

When curate Nicky Gumbel took over the running of Alpha at HTB in 1990, he noticed its appeal to those who would not describe themselves as Christians. Alpha became increasingly popular and, after the first coaching conference for church leaders in 1993, began running in other churches in the UK and around the world.

Over 25 million people around the world have now done Alpha. It currently runs in 169 countries and in 112 languages.

Alpha International is a charity that publishes and promotes Alpha worldwide. In addition, Alpha offices have been established in many countries around the world.

Alpha Australia provides resources, coaching and inspiration to Australian churches for evangelism and discipleship in the Christian faith.  Alpha Australia National Office is a charity registered with the Australian Charities and Not-For-Profits Commission (ACNC). The work of Alpha Australia is governed by the Board of Alpha Australia National Office, and is led by the National Director of Alpha Australia.

Imagine working for us

Being part of a dynamic, Spirit-led team committed to helping one million Aussies explore Christian faith, supporting and encouraging church leaders and church planters, inspiring and coaching Alpha leaders, and helping make Jesus last command the first priority of churches across our nation.
