An exciting ministry opportunity has been identified at Torquay Christian Fellowship, (TCF), a member of the Baptist Union of Victoria, and a vibrant community fellowship situated on the Surf Coast of Victoria.

The heart of our vision for TCF is to ‘Declare Jesus, Develop Disciples and Glorify God’, and we are searching for a dynamic leader to lead this crucial ministry. We are looking for a passionate and experienced person for this ever-growing children’s and families demographic at TCF. You will be an initiative-taker who’s well-organised and personable. You will have a vision for this ministry which goes beyond the walls of TCF into Torquay where many young families are moving and are looking for community.

Pastor for Children & Families

Conditions: Part-time Position (3 days per week)

Position reports to: TCF Leadership Team through the Senior Pastor

Position purpose

Oversight & development of the Children’s & Families Ministry in line with the TCF vison to ‘Declare Jesus, Develop Disciples & Glorify God,’ providing leadership, resources, and support to enable the participation and nurture of the faith of children in the life of TCF and beyond. TCF recognises that every child lives in the context of a family and therefore seeks to care for, resource, and encourage parents as part of their children’s discipleship.

Strong and growing relationship with Jesus; Disciplined in personal and devotional life; Hard working, professional and relational. Discerning, honest, and discreet. Relates well to children and parents and is able to mobilise, lead, build and equip volunteers and teams. (If married, spouse must be a committed Christian).

Job Competencies

Working with groups; planning & administration; Ability to teach, train and coach individuals and groups.  A vision-caster and gifted in leadership, teaching and encouragement; understanding of developmental and learning issues of children and the challenges and opportunities for families. Able to articulate a theological framework for children’s ministry and resource the ministry with appropriate curriculum; Have a proven ability to work harmoniously in a team of staff and alongside numerous volunteers. Have good delegation and inter-congregational networking skills.

In consultation with the Senior Pastor, the TCF Pastor for Children & Families will be involved in, and responsible for;

KidsChurch Development & Other Outreach

·    Lead the Children’s (preschool, and primary school age) and Families Ministry, to ‘Declare Jesus, Develop Disciples & Glorify God. (TCF Vision).  Plan, co-ordinate, promote and administer the Children’s & Families Ministry activities.  (Sundays - Kingdom Kids, Little Kingdom. Other weekdays - Music Mornings, Friday Play Group, camps and other events as required).

·    Provide curriculum and support to enable children to worship and practise their faith.

·    Through personal example, create opportunities for service, and foster an expectation of attendance and involvement of children into the life of TCF.

·    Develop pathways for children and families to come to understand and experience God’s love for them and what it means to know and to follow Jesus.

·    Liaise with local primary schools - in particular with TCF’s Torquay Early Learning Centre (TeLC) – providing pastoral support where required/requested.

Leadership Development

·    Identify, mentor, develop and encourage emerging leaders in their faith journeys.

·    Uphold and model responsible leadership in accordance with TCF Child Safe Code of Conduct.

·    Lead, mentor, and develop teams and training for children and family ministries for weekly Sunday programs for Kingdom Kids, Little Kingdom, and for other weekly ministries such as Music Mornings, Friday Play Group,  special church events and other special activities (as required) that promote joint parent and children participation. (e.g. camps or holiday programs.)

Pastoral Care

·    Active and regular encouragement of volunteers and other leaders.

·    Respond to pastoral needs as they arise in conjunction with other staff members.

·    Provide pastoral care for children, families and volunteers. (With the Pastoral Team.)

·    Develop creative ways of encouraging participation and engagement of children with their parents; strengthen healthy relationships and foster constructive communication between children and parents. (With the Pastoral Team.)


·    Develop and grow group discipleship opportunities for children.

·    Identify and encourage leaders to be involved in the discipleship of children.

·    Foster an attitude of discipleship and evangelism in various community groups. (e.g. Sport teams etc.)

·    Resource and encourage Christian parents to disciple their children.

Other areas

·    Participation as a member of the Ministry Team and church leadership through attendance at Ministry team meetings, Leadership Team meetings (as appropriate) and other strategic opportunities for professional development.

·    Attendance at TCF activities.

·    Willingness, where appropriate, to be involved in other ministry activities (e.g. worship team, preaching, etc).

·    Develop and maintain networks with other churches.

·    Willingness to pursue professional development/study in an approved Theological/Ministry course

·    Current Working with Children Check

·    National Police Check

·    Baptist Union of Victoria Safe Churches Workshops
