Intern Position Description

Organisational Purpose

Christian camping is about God, his people, and the relationships that can be formed and strengthened when God’s people get together to take time out from ‘normal life’ and spend time in fellowship, bible study, worship and prayer. Pastor Brett Kennett 2016

Our job is to bring this to life in all that we do, and help others to have a positive and enjoyable experience while they are guests at Tandara. We want them to return and also recommend Tandara to others as a great venue and activity centre.

Position Purpose

To give witness to the Christian faith through personal spiritual growth and servant ministries, learn and grow in team ministry and leadership skills and learn and practice camping ministry skills.

Nature and scope of the Position

The intern program is designed to disciple and grows interns through undertaking a year of service, hospitality and personal development at Tandara. Interns become much of the primary face of Tandara to clients and visitors. These include school children and staff, youth groups, Lutheran and other church groups and a variety of community groups.

The focus of the position is to become equipped and competent in: camping ministry hosting and skills; leadership skills; working in a tight-knit team and, growth in personal faith, discipleship and hospitality.

Key Responsibilities

1.  To provide a warm and high quality camping experience for guests

2.  Your actions and positive examples continue growth of the Tandara Camp business

3.  Assist and lead in running program activities.

4.  Enthusiastically serve in all aspects of camping life, including kitchen/meals; cleaning, maintenance and program activities

5.  Work well together as part of the small team with other interns and staff. Meet regularly and contribute positively to learning, improvement and positive team outcomes.

6.  Support, uphold and promote the ethos of the Lutheran Church of Australia

8.  The ability to see what else needs to happen without needing to be always told; self-starter.

Professional Development

1.   Encouraged to complete a Certificate IV in Christian Ministry and Theology through Australian Lutheran College School of Theology and thereby be encouraged to become an accredited lay worker of the LCA.

2.   Complete a Certificate III in Sport and Recreation.

3.   LCA Professional Standards

4.   Time for course attendance and study is provided.

5.   Develop and enhance your hospitality skills.

6.   Be mentored and learn mentoring skills.


Reports to

Tandara Camp Manager or their nominee

Requirements

1.   Willing to work in a team ministry environment, including peer and upward mentoring.

2.   Willing to engage in personal spiritual life and development, including team and personal Bible study, prayer and worship.

3.   Willing to be on the Roll of Lay Workers of the LCA, and to consider becoming an accredited LCA lay worker.

4.   Working with Children’s Check Employee (Victoria)

5.   An advantage to hold a current driver’s licence.
