Job Description


This job description outlines the key accountabilities of, and output required from, the post holder. It is not a definitive list and the role may well change and evolve over time.

This position is full time 5 days per week

Department: Fundraising and Marketing

Location: Level 1 451 Hunter Street Newcastle NSW

Reports to: CEO

Direct Reports: Supporter Relations Co-ordinator

Salary: Negotiable

Other Benefits:      Holiday – 5 weeks per year (Jan – Dec)

The Donor Development Manager is a key member our Fundraising and Marketing team. Responsible for driving the acquisition of new donors and identifying strategies to inspire existing donors. They hold responsibility for overall income raised through our supporter strategies and for ensuring that anyone choosing to engage with us as a supporter has a great experience.



To provide leadership and momentum to our strategies for acquisition and retention of regular donors and mid-level donors. To develop and oversee our supporter journeys aiming to increase engagement with the purpose of increasing income. Working with senior leadership and the wider CAP staff, to be responsible for hitting targets through a combination of existing strategies and creative innovation.

They are committed to deliver innovative and exciting projects that will inspire people to support or increase their commitment to us. They have a gift for understanding how to transfer their passion for CAP’s work to thousands of others and they simply cannot stop fighting for the sake of Australia’s poorest.




·       Provide strategic leadership to the vital area of recruiting individual supporters and inspiring them to give generously to CAP.

·       Provide strategic, effective and inspirational leadership to the Supporter Relations Co-ordinator.

·       Proactive relationship building with a caseload of key supporters (mid-range donors) with the primary aim of income generation.

·       Drive innovation within this team to ensure growth in all areas of income and supporter engagement.

·       Member of Fundraising and Marketing Leadership Team


Measurable Outputs:

·       Number of new Life Changers.

·       Number of cancelled Life Changers.

·       Income generated through Life Changers.

·       Income generated through key supporter caseload.

·       Number of mid donors attending a fundraising event each year.

·       Income generated from mid-donor fundraising events.

·       % of supporter relations service standards achieved.


Other responsibilities include

·       Being willing to pray with staff.

·       To encourage friends, family and other contacts to support the charity through the Life Changer program, and other fundraising initiatives.




·       Degree level or equivalent experience



·       Essential

o   At least 3 years previous leadership and management experience within a fundraising environment.

o   Experience of having to meet deadlines or targets.

o   Experience of leading teams to meet key objectives or targets.

o   Experience of project management.


·       Desirable

o   Experience of networking and influencing.

o   Experience of pioneering a new project.

o   Experience of training and developing effective individuals.

o   Experience of training and developing effective teams.



·       A proven leader who can inspire, influence and deliver results.

·       A strategic thinker.

·       A great level of organisational awareness.

·       Ability to build teams and create an environment of trust, loyalty and fun.

·       Ability to develop strengths, skills and motivation in others to maximise performance.

·       Ability to project manage and meet deadlines.

·       Able to hold a good balance between detail and the 'big picture'.

·       High emotional intelligence and ability to understand the human factors involved in the role.

·       A confident communicator who promotes CAP's culture and values at all times.

·       Mature approach to teamwork, with a positive attitude towards collaborative working.

·       Naturally decisive and proactive.

·       Organised and driven to reach targets quickly and efficiently.


Christian Commitment

·       The candidate must be able to give both verbal assent to and practical demonstration of Christians Against Poverty’s Statement of Faith and Core Values

·       Must be able to actively participate in prayer and worship, whether individual, small group or corporately, as an expression of own personal faith and in line with CAP’s Statement of Faith.
