Board Member

AdSAFE Ltd is seeking to strengthen its Board for the Seventh-day Adventist Church’s child protection/vulnerable person service. Our Board is currently made up of professionals with specific areas of expertise and experience, who are responsible for the governance of AdSAFE Ltd.

We are seeking a professional with relevant qualifications and experience in either Social Work and/or Clinical Psychology, to become a member of our Board and attend our meetings which occur 4 times per year. Director fees and reasonable out of pocket expenses will be reimbursed.

About AdSAFE Ltd

AdSAFE Ltd, ABN 61 615 376 997, is endorsed by the ACNC as a Not for Profit Organisation and is located in Wahroonga, NSW. AdSAFE Ltd is a separate incorporated entity set up by the Seventh-day Adventist Church and provides protective services for children and vulnerable persons across the Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) Church (and wider programs and activities) in Australia, New Zealand and in time the wider South Pacific region.

AdSAFE Ltd commenced in January 2017 from an identified need highlighted by the work of the Australian Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse (Royal Commission), for the SDA Church to be more intentional in their responses and management of child and vulnerable persons related matters.

Our Services

Survivor Services – provides care and support through specialised case management to survivors and vulnerable adults. Our aim is to create a safe environment where survivors can share their stories and be empowered in seeking justice and healing pathways, through the provision of information and different options available and to help navigate through the different services within the wider community.

Redress – the SDA Church aims to support survivors by listening to their stories, offering an apology, providing access to counselling and providing tangible acknowledgement of past abuse by way of an ex gratia payment

Safeguarding – actively working to raise the awareness through education strategies aligned to the reports and recommendations of the Royal Commission, of our collective responsibility to protect and promote the safety of our children and vulnerable people.

Offender Management & Investigations  implementation of prevention strategies to mitigate risk of sexual and physical abuse against children and vulnerable people within the context of the local church or its wider activities. Working closely with the Church Pastors and their leadership teams for the effective implementation of safety agreements upon known persons of concern who need to be monitored in our environments. Reporting to regulatory authorities and coordination of independent investigations when allegations of abuse (within AdSAFE’s scope) are disclosed or reported.

Essential Selection Criteria

1.    Must be a practising Christian

2.    Must be supportive and respectful of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, its mission, beliefs and lifestyle.

3.    An Australian or New Zealand resident

4.    Relevant tertiary qualifications in Social Work and/or Clinical Psychology

5.    Current membership with a relevant professional body

6.    Knowledge and experience in working with victims/survivors of sexual abuse/assault, sex offenders and/or or child protection matters

7.    Understanding of trauma and its impact for survivors of sexual abuse

8.    High level of confidentiality, discretion and privacy regarding sensitive information

9.    Willingness to undergo a National Criminal History Check

10. Current relevant Working with Children Check clearance

1.    Previous board experience

2.    Previous governance experience
